Troubleshooting connecting domain name to Etsy

With Etsy's new Etsy Plus tiered price service one of the many benefits of this package includes a discount when registering a domain name with Hover. If your domain does not route to your Etsy store here are some troubleshooting tips that should help rectify the problem.

1. Check your domain name servers

One issue that can impact your domain connection to Etsy is if your name servers do not point to Hover. This can occur if you were previously using a third party hosting provider or if you have recently transferred your domain name from a different registration provider. 

In order for your domain name to link to your Etsy store you need to ensure your name servers point to Hover's name servers which are listed below for your reference:

ns1.hover.com
ns2.hover.com

PLEASE NOTE: Changing your name servers may disrupt domain forwarding or email hosting services linked to the domain as changing name servers will change where the domain settings are based. If you need help editing your name servers please see: How to: Change your domain name servers

To view the current name servers on your domain name you need to go to your Domain Overview page. To navigate to your Domain Overview page you will need to go to the Your Account drop down menu and select Domains. If you only have one domain name with Hover you will be brought to your Domain Overview page. If you have more than one domain name select the domain you wish to connect to your Etsy store from your domain list. 

Once on your Domain Overview page on the left hand side of the screen you should see a panel for Nameservers and you can update your existing name servers to Hover's name servers.

2. Check your DNS settings 

In order to use our Hover connect tool your DNS A records must point to Hover's IP address. Our IP address is listed below:

64.98.145.30

To ensure your domain connection to Etsy will function you can go to your domain DNS panel to check your settings. To navigate to your DNS panel you will need to go to the Your Account drop down menu and select Domains. If you only have one domain name with Hover you will be brought to your Domain Overview page. If you have more than one domain name select the domain you wish to connect to your Etsy store from your domain list. 

Once on your Domain Overview page you will select the DNS tab.

Once on your DNS tab you will be able to see your DNS information for your domain name. In order for your Etsy connection to work you will need to have two A records in place that point to Hover's IP address. A root A record and a wildcard A record will need to be listed in order for your domain to function. The DNS settings needed for your Etsy connect to work should match the A records listed below:

If your DNS dashboard is blank you can reset your DNS settings by selecting the Bulk Edit drop down menu and clicking on the option for Reset DNS. This will automatically populate the correct DNS information to allow your domain forwarding to function

3. Check your domain forwarding settings

If your Etsy connection is resolving to a blank white page this may just mean that domain masking is currently enabled on your forwarding settings. Once this masking setting is disabled your site will resolve correctly within 15 minutes.

To ensure masking is turned off you can review your domain forwarding settings in your Domain Overview page. To navigate to your Domain Overview page you will need to go to the Your Account drop down menu and select Domains. If you only have one domain name with Hover you will be brought to your Domain Overview page. If you have more than one domain name select the domain you wish to connect to your Etsy store from your domain list. 

Once on your Domain Overview page scroll down to the Forwards panel and click the Edit option next to your Etsy store URL

Once in your Edit Forward settings you need to ensure that masking is turned off. Once this setting is disabled select Save Forward.
