How to: Use your domain with Tumblr

This tutorial will show you how to Connect your domain name at your Tumblr.

To point your domain name at Tumblr, please complete the following steps:

How to Connect

  1. Log into your Hover account on the sign in page:
  2. From the Your Account menu, choose Domains.


  3. Click on the domain you wish to connect to.


  4. Ensure in the Nameservers section on the Overview page the name servers are pointed to and

    PLEASE NOTE: changing your nameservers may disrupt any domain forwards or email hosting services.  If you are in doubt whether this applies to you, please contact customer service by email at, live chat down below in the chat window, or give us a call at 1-866-731-6556 Mon-Fri 8am-11pm, Sat-Sun 8am-8pm EST.

  5. Next, up to the right, click the Connect tab.


  6. It will list all the services, click Select on the one you wish to connect your domain to.

  7. Follow the directions and then click Connect.


  8. Now your domain is connected and should look something like this.


  9. Visit and login with your email address and password.


  10. Click on Settings at the top right-hand corner.

  11. a. Select your blog.

    b. Click Use a custom domain name.

    c. Enter your Hover domain name.

    d. Click Test your domain.


  12. A message will be displayed stating Your domain is pointing to Tumblr.  Tumblr11.png

    I think you also have to click "SAVE" on the top right to confirm that you want to use the new domain name.

    Once upon a time, I recall seeing the custom domain name settings when signed in to Tumblr. But today, it appears they are no longer present in my dashboard using the steps outlined in this article. Can anyone please advise how to set this up now?

    Please disregard my previous question about custom domain name setup in Tumblr. I've attached a screenshot to help anyone else out who might be stuck since Tumblr has changed since the creation or last modification of this help article.
