How to: Configure Hover email on your Android device (Updated Aug, 2015)

This tutorial will show you how to set up your Hover email on your Android smartphone.

With the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the native email app was removed from Android. All email accounts can now be setup in the Gmail app.

Steps for Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat follow afterwards.

Android 5.0 Lollipop Instructions

Screenshots were taken on an LG G4 running Android 5.0 Lollipop.

1. Select Gmail from your home screen.

You're now all setup!

Updated or not, you saved me hours trying to configure my Hover email account on my new Nexus 7 32g. I was going nuts trying to do it using the typically mysterious Google instructions. But your Android advice got through it in five minutes! Thanks!

Hi, I have set up my Android GMail App on 2 devices, and both have the same problem..

My hover email address is gordon@bowser.net. I've set up the GMail with  Account Name = "Gordon Bowser" and  Your Name = "Gordon Bowser"

But all email is received by recipients with the name of the sender as  gordon@bowser.net.  Not my actual name.  What do I need to do to rectify that?

I was struggling with how to get outgoing email working from my Verizon Android Razor.  This explained it clearly and it worked on the first try.  Thank you!

Roger, I've seen that issue with my own phone at various public hotspots as well. My suspicion is that they're blocking whatever port number you're using for sending. Try setting it to port 465 if it isn't already, otherwise try 587. Make sure you're using Authentication with both the username and password on your phone for sending as well.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, followed your set-up (IMAP) but getting an "Unable to connect to email server to verify your account information. . . " alert after clicking Next on the Incoming server settings screen. Same for Outgoing server settings. I am able to receive and send through my PC's webmail account. Would appreciate your assistance.

I have reinstalled everything on my Android phone (Galaxy Nexus, 4.2.1) but cannot get the email configured now. I enter my hover user name and password the same way as I had done the first time (and as I have on my home PC) but when I click on "next" it tells me that my user name or password is incorrect. I have had this user name and password for years, since the netidentity days. What is wrong?

Please disregard my earlier message. Got it all working. User error ;-) Wrong IMAP server and SMTP server entries, should be my own domain entries not hover as per your examples.

Hi Guy, the username will be your Hover e-mail address that you are setting up. The password is the e-mail password. If you're still having trouble, you can also send us an e-mail to help@hover.com or let me know.

    Hi Kenneth,

The message "authentication failed" means the mail program was unable to connect to our server with your email address and password.  To ensure this is correct, are you able to log in here: https://mail.hover.com

If you can, then it could be something else causing the authentication to fail. Let me know and I can send you an email to get more details from you.

I was pleasantly surprised - this worked exactly as written and perfectly the first time. Mind you, I have an older phone - actually and original Google Nexus. So the Android O,S. version is about 2.6x, but it's still nice to have something just work right the first time.
