.UK domain transfers

Hover offers domain name registrations for .ORG.UK, .CO.UK, and .ME.UK in much the same way as we do with the .COM and .NET domain registrations.

.UK domain names are registered at a central domain registry managed by NominetNominet’s transfer policy requires the losing Registrar (this is the company you are transferring away from) to change the domain's registrar tag before the transfer can be initiated. For domains that are being transferred to Hover, you will need to contact your current Registrar and ask them to change your domain's registrar tag to the following: TUCOWS-CA

Warning: As soon as you change the tag, the previous registrar might stop the DNS service.  If you do not want the web site to go down or the email service disrupted, please contact us before changing the tag.  If you are using third party name servers, you can change the tag without contacting us first.

After the TUCOWS-CA tag is placed on the domain, then we can move your domain over to Hover.  Please call us at 1-866-731-6556 or by email at help@hover.com to initiate your .UK domain transfer.

Slightly confused by this. When you say "Please call us at 1-866-731-6556 or by email at  help@hover.com to initiate your .UK domain transfer", do you mean I can't do the transfer on Hover's website in the same way as I do with .com domains? Do I have to call or use the support email?

    Hi Jonathan,

.UK domain names work differently then .COM domain transfers. There is a IPS-TAG that needs to be changed on the domain name to TUCOWS-CA in order to move it from one registrar to Tucows (our parent company). Once it is on our side, we can move it into your account with us by giving us a call or emailing us with the details on the domain and your account to help@hover.com and they cannot be transferred in the same way as a .com domain name.

We've never needed a number, whatever it is, for transferring these sorts of domains. It's probably just a confirmation number, but we won't need it for the transfer regardless.

Some providers make their transfer out processes purposefully complex. You might want to check that the number isn't some ticket ID you need to give to their billing department or something before they will release the domain. UK2 have a system like this, for example.

If I am transferring my .uk domain from my Hover account to someone else's Hover account, what is the process and what details do I need to provide? Thanks.
