How to: Enter or update your billing information

Ensuring your billing information is up-to-date allows us to renew your active services and prevent any disruptions in your domain or email services.

Enter or update credit card billing information

  1. Log into your Hover account online at https://www.hover.com/login.
  2. Click on the Settings link near the top right corner of the Hover page.

  3. Click on the Edit button in the Billing Info section.

  4. Select the Check out with credit card option and then enter your credit card billing address, credit card number, expiration date, and CVV code.  The CVV code is the 3 digit security number on the back of your Visa, Mastercard, or Discover, or the 4 digit security code on the front of your American Express card.

    Click Save.

A $1 authorization may appear on your credit card after updating billing information

As a means to verify your billing information, our billing system will request authorization for a charge of $1 (one U.S. dollar) when you save changes to your billing information in Hover.

Some banks may temporarily reduce your credit balance by $1, or show a $1 charge followed by a $1 refund on your credit card statement.  Most banks recognize the $1 authorization as common industry practice and the majority of credit card holders will not see the $1 authorization in their online banking accounts or statements.

Enter or update PayPal billing information

  1. Log into your Hover account online at https://www.hover.com/login.
  2. Click on the Settings link near the top right corner of the Hover page.

  3. Click on the Edit button in the Billing Info section.

  4. Select Check out with PayPal and then click on Paypal>>.

  5. You will be taken to a PayPal log in page in a separate window.  Log in with your PayPal account email address and password.

  6. Your PayPal account details and payment method will be displayed.  Scroll down and click on the Agree and Continue button to authorize payments to Hover.

  7. You will be taken back into your Hover account.  PayPal is now set as your default payment method!

When entering my billing info, I saw a "?" by the CVV field. Clicking that took me here, but it doesn't explain what the Card Security Code actually is. For the record, I do -- was just curious to see if you had a popup explaining it or something else.

Figured you'd want to know. Maybe add a new section to this article?

Thanks Alistair for letting us know about the broken link.  Click here for the correct article.  We'll get that link corrected.

You're welcome. The link to the article you provided is great. I especially like the American Express note. First time I think I've seen someone mention it's 4 digits on the front of the card.

Hi Azizur - I'm not sure I understand the question.  I found an account but there is no domains in it.  Are you trying to buy a new domain?  What country are you in?

Good info - thanks. BUT there is NO information about how to delete or remove credit card or PayPal billing information. I want to REPLACE my credit card information with PayPal payment. Also, how can I be sure the credit card information has been removed from Hover's records? Notes should appear telling us that the change has removed that data. Or, if it's not removed that two methods have been saved. Importantly we should have a clear simple option to "edit, add or delete" payment methods. Cheers.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the feedback.  All billing information is 100% encrypted once saved to the system, even we can't see it.  If you wanted to change the credit card info to PayPal info you would simply choose the "PayPal" option and set that up.  That will remove the credit card from your account and replace it with your PayPal account info.  Same applies if you were to update to a new credit card, the old information is removed and replaced with the new.

Maintaining accurate and current billing information is a mandatory condition of or service.  You cannot delete it from your account and leave it blank, there must be a credit card or PayPal account set up.  This is when you only have the option to edit the information.

Let me know if you have any questions.

After receiving a WHOIS Data Confirmation email, I was surprised to see that my billing information in the listing showed my old physical address and an old phone number. I have noticed this before but shrugged it off as they are both still in use but not preferred.

Today I actually took a second look at my account and I had in fact updated my billing and registration information on ALL my domains to correctly reflect my mailing address (PO Box) and my current email address for the billing information. It had also been updated for the other various registration categories.

Why is the WHOIS information still reflecting incorrect information regarding my billing records?

That previous post I meant to say in the first sentence that it was my old EMAIL address not the phone number.

HI William,

So long as the registration records were updated for the specific domains in question, then the most likely explanation for outdated info in the WHOIS is that the particular WHOIS server you're looking at hasn't updated since you made the changes.

If, on the other hand, you perhaps added the records under the Settings on your Hover account rather than on the specific domain, the issue then would be that the records were never actually updated.

Updating the records under the Settings in your account sets those records as the default to be used for future registrations, however, it does nothing to update the domains that are already in your account in real time.

I hope that helps!

Useless, as usual.  No information on where to find the CVV number.

Ilia, we actually wrote in the initial post above: The CVV code is the 3 digit security number on the back of your Visa, Mastercard, or Discover, or the 4 digit security code on the front of your American Express card.

You can't update the "Billing Contact" from the individual domain records. The only whois data you can update there is "Owner", "Admin", and "Tech". I have the same issue - old data on whois for Billing and it's been incorrect for 2 years. Can't seem to update it.

Hi Charbel,

The only payment options we accept are credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, American Express) and/or Paypal.

How do I delete my existing credit card account information before changing my account to bill a different card? I don't want to leave the current card information out on your site.

Hi Nick,

You can't delete the existing card, however you can just change it to the new card.  When you click on "edit" you will see the option to "use a different card" and it will allow you to update the billing information.  When you save, the old card will be gone and the new credit card will be saved in it's place.
