Transfer Your Domain to Another Registrar
This tutorial explains how to prepare a domain in Hover for a transfer to another registration service provider.
Domain Transfer Restrictions
Domain transfers will be outright rejected if:
* the domain name is locked (this tutorial will show you how to unlock your domain name)
* the domain name was registered or transferred in the past 60 days
* the authorization code provided is invalid (this tutorial will show you how to obtain the authorization code)
* the domain name is in redemption
* there is an unresolved domain dispute (a form of registrar lock)
This tutorial applies to the following top-level domains:
.com
.net
.info
.org
.tv
.us
.me
.biz
.tel
Other top-level domains, such as .AT domains, have a slightly different transfer process. For example, you do not need to unlock .AT domain names or obtain an authorization code.
You can use the chart below as a guide for top-level domain specific rules (click on the image to zoom in):
*The .UK and .CA registries only allow domain privacy if the domain registrant / owner is an individual. Organizations cannot have privacy enabled.
To begin, log into your Hover account online at: https://www.hover.com/login
Select the List of Domains tab then click on the domain name that you want to transfer out of Hover.
Update Registry Records
Click on the Account tab then click on Registry Records.

Under Domain Settings:
1. Set Personal Info to Public
2. Set the Lock Status to Unlocked
3. Click on "I want to transfer".

The transfer Auth Code is now displayed. Record your authorization code. This code is required to approve a domain transfer.
Click Save.
"Your registry information has been updated" is displayed for confirmation.
Verify Admin E-mail Address

Ensure the Admin Contact information in the Registry Records is valid. During the transfer process, email messages are sent to the admin contact to approve the transfer.

Edit the admin email contact, if necessary.

Scroll down and click Save after editing the registry records.
It is possible to save a new auth code for your domain.
Initiate Transfer With the Receiving Registration Service Provider
The registry information has been updated.
The next step in the transfer process is to contact the gaining registration service provider so they can initiate the domain transfer. You will need to supply the gaining registrar with your auth code.
Transfers typically take 5-7 days to complete.
Expedite the Transfer
An email that enables you to approve or cancel your transfer request will be sent from our registrar to your administrative email address. If you do nothing, the transfer out will proceed in five days from when the transfer was initiated. Approving the transfer will expedite the process.
Please allow a minimum of 24 hours to receive a transfer approval email. Outgoing transfer requests are generally sent to our registrar in batch jobs.
Click on the link in the email to approve or cancel your transfer.
Select the checkbox to accept the transfer then click Submit.
Transfer Approval Confirmation Message
Cancel Services for the Domain
To continue using Hover email services, Hover redirects, domain forwarding, and/or DNS services you will need to keep the domain active in our system and renew your services as normal. However, should you no longer require Hover services for your domain, please cancel the domain in Hover to disable automatic billing.
You can find the Cancel option by going under the Billing tab, then clicking on the plus next to Account Details.
