Purchase Hover Services and Initiate Transfer
This tutorial will show you how to purchase services for an existing domain name and initiate a transfer to Hover.
It is assumed that your domain contact information is up to date, the domain name is unlocked, and that you have your transfer authorization code. If you have not performed these steps already, click here for more transfer tutorials.
If you are already logged into your Hover account:
If you are already logged into your Hover account, select the Manage Forwards tab then click on Add another service.
New customers can go directly to http://www.hover.com and click on Domain transfers:
Click on Domain transfers.
Type the domain name that you want to transfer under Your Domain then click Check My Domain.
If the domain is unlocked and transferable, you will receive the message "Your domain can be transferred to Hover!" Click on Checkout.
You will be given an opportunity to purchase email mailboxes with the domain name, and choose a term of up to 10 years. Click on Update after adding mailboxes or changing your term. If you have a coupon code, enter it in the text box then click Apply.
Click on Checkout when you are ready to proceed.
If you already have an account, enter your Username and password then click Sign In. In this example, I am going to create a new account.
New customers need to provide their name, a contact email address, then pick a username and password for their Hover account. Click Create Account after typing in all the required details.
Billing information needs to be filled in next. Please ensure that you type in all fields as they appear on your credit card statements. We use name and address verification for anti-fraud purposes. If your name and address do not match the credit card company's records, the payment may be rejected.
Click Continue once all of your billing information has been entered.
You can click on Hover Terms of Service to review our service agreement. Put a check next to "I have read and agree to the Hover Terms of Service" then click Finish.
Click Continue.
The order status will be set to pending until your payment has been confirmed by our bank.
Once the domain status is Active we can proceed to the next step.
Initiate the Domain Transfer
Select the List of Domains tab then click on the domain name to be transferred.
Select the Manage Domain tab then click on Registry Records.
Click on the transfer the domain link.
To check if the domain is unlocked and can be transferred, click on Is my domain transferrable?
If your domain is still locked, you will receive an error message that the domain status doesn't allow for transfer. Contact your current current registration service provider if you need help unlocking your domain, or visit our tutorials at http://about.hover.com/transfers to check whether we have a tutorial on how to unlock domains with your current registration service provider.
If your domain has been created or transferred in the last 60 days you will see the above error message. The domain registry will not allow transfers within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer. If you receive this error, you'll need to wait longer before you can initiate the domain transfer.
If there are no errors you will receive a message that your domain is transferrable.
Enter the name and address for the domain registrant.
Put a check next to "Do not publish my contact information for this domain name in any online directories" if you want to keep your registration contact information private from the outside world. Public domain records can be viewed online by doing a whois search (see http://who.is for example).
Enter your domain's transfer auth code in the text box then click Submit.
If you are transferring a .CA domain name enter "null" as the auth code.
A confirmation message will be displayed after submitting your transfer request.
Approve the Transfer
You will receive a transfer request email similar to the example above.
The email message will contain a link to a website to confirm or decline the transfer. Click on the link.
The link will take you to an OpenSRS website. OpenSRS is our sister company.
Select "to indicate that the Registrant(s) for the domain listed above" and type your transfer authorization code in the text box.
Click on Submit Request.
A confirmation message will be displayed. Please be patient while the transfer process is completed. The transfer should be completed within 7 days. You will receive an email from Hover automatically when the transfer has been completed.
The losing registrar may contact you to confirm the domain transfer, or to give you an opportunity to cancel the transfer. Be alert for any transfer approval or cancellation messages sent from your current registration service provider.
