Do you have a registered domain and want to purchase email without switching registrars? This tutorial will guide you through purchasing and configuring hover email for your existing domain.

To begin, you will need to purchase Hover services for the registered domain as though you are transferring the domain to Hover. You do not need to initiate the domain transfer or actually complete the process of transferring the domain into Hover to use our email.

Point Your Domain At Hover's Mail Server

After you have signed up for a Hover account with email services, you need to point your domain name at Hover's email server. Two methods to do this are outlined below:

Method 1 - Change Your Mail Exchange (MX) Record In Your DNS Service Provider's Control Panel

Use the DNS services provided by your registration service provider to change your MX Record to point at Hover. You will need to delete any current MX Records and replace them with the following:

hostname = mx.hover.com.cust.hostedemail.com
priority = 10

Once this is saved allow up to 24 hours for changes to your MX Records to propagate.

Method 2 - Change Your Name Servers to Hover In Your DNS Service Provider's Control Panel

Alternatively, you can point your domain at Hover's name servers and use our DNS services to resolve your domain name and your MX record.

Our name servers are:

ns1.hover.com
ns2.hover.com

Doing this will require you to manually edit your DNS records if your domain name is also used for website hosting. Detailed tutorials on how to edit DNS records can be found by clicking on these URLs:

Changes to your domain name servers can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 48 hours to propagate to your Internet Service Provider.

To begin, log into your Hover account online at: https://www.hover.com/login

Select the List of Domains tab in Hover then click on the domain name that you are going to use with Hover's email services.

Click to Zoom

Select the Manage Email tab then click on the plus next to Create A New Email Address.

Enter an email address and password then click Save to create the email address on our mail server.
