The telnet command is diabled by default in Windows Vista and Windows 7. This lesson will show you how to enable telnet.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 users may receive the error below when trying to use telnet:

Enabling telnet will allow you to use this utility in Windows Vista or Windows 7.  Complete the steps below to enable telnet.

1. Open the Windows Start menu and select Control Panel.
   
   
    
2. Click on Programs.
   
   
    
3. Click on "Turn Windows features on or off."
   
    
4. Put a checkmark next to Telnet Client then click OK.
   
   
5. Wait for Windows to update your system then close the Control Panel.
